Frequently Asked Questions

Are helmets included in the price?

Yes, helmets are included in the rental price.

Can I carry a pillion rider?

All our scooters and motorcycles can carry a pillion rider.

Can you give me a map of the area?

In both Radda and Florence, we will give you a map of the center, and another little map with the gas stations nearby. We can also provide you with a self-guided tour map of Chianti for an extra €8

Do I need an international drivers' license?

You don't need an international drivers' license to rent a scooter as long as the Italian Police can read and understand your license (for example we won't accept licenses written in Chinese, Thai, Arabic, Cyrillic etc etc).

You need an international drivers' license to rent all vehicles that require a motorcycle license

Do I need to book in advance?

You don’t need to book in advance, but in high season we recommend you do as we are often sold out.

Do you also run Vespa/scooter tours?

Yes we do.

If you would like more info on our day tours, or self-guided tours, please click on the tab "Tours" in the main menu or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to get more information

We currently have day tours in Chianti, departing from Florence or from Radda in Chianti, tours in the Arno Valley departing from Chianti, and tours in Mugello departing from Florence

Since 2017, we also offer Vespa Rally Tours, lots of fun and a great experience for expert Vespa riders: see for example this article (from an externale website), or this video. You can find them here

Do you charge for excess kilometers?

For scooters, no

For motorcycles, you can have two different rates: unlimited mileage or "basic price + miles". Please This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or go to our motorcycle page for more information about motorcycle rates

Do you take a credit card deposit?

Yes, we take a €800 deposit for scooters (€1000 for two scooters, and another €500 for any additional scooters), that is released at the end of the rental period, except for rental fees that are paid at the end of it.

Let's use as an example that we have put a deposit of €1000 on your card, and you have to pay €120 at the end of the rental.

When we run the €120 payment, our credit card company sends the request to your bank. Then our credit card company releases the remaining hold, not as a refund but rather as availability on your card. As the deposit is not a charge, you will not see any refund of €880 on your card, you will just get €880 available for you to spend on your card again. This can happen up to four days after the final charges are made (we have no control over it, nor does our credit card company).

How does it work for the insurance?

All of our Vespas/scooters and motos are fully third-party insured, but please note that Italian insurance does not cover any damage you make to the vehicle, and therefore we offer an additional insurance to reduce your deductible from the full value of the vehicle (about €2,500) to €800. This option is not available to groups.

The additional VIP insurance costs an additional €10/day per Vespa/scooter.

The motorcycles are all insured differently, so This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and let us know the specif model you would like to rent. ALso, you can read our terms and conditions of rental

How much does it cost?

Each scooter or motorcycle has a different price, so please refer to our main website to find the right vehicle, location and price for you

Is a scooter or a Vespa easy to ride?

Previous experience driving a scooter or motorbike is advantageous and highly advised.

If you have not ridden one, then you should do so before you come to Italy because we are not a driving school and we don’t provide any lesson on riding, but only instructions on how to operate the Vespa.

Even if riding a scooter is a fun activity, it entails some risks; the helmet we give you are not a guarantee that you will not hurt or kill yourself (or someone else) if you are not competent to ride a scooter on open roads, with climbs, descents, twisting roads, turns, and of course traffic... a Vespa is not a toy, not a bicycle, not a moped. It is a small motorcycle that weighs approximately 250 pounds, can move at 50 mph, and has small wheels. In spite of its “cool” appearance, a Vespa is not an easy vehicle to ride for a beginner.

On top of that, a Vespa is a VERY expensive vehicle to repair: see here

What are your office hours?

In high season (April 30th to October 1st), we are open 7 days a week, 10 AM til 6 PM in Radda and 9:30 til 6pm in Florence for phone and email correspondence.

We are often out of the office to deliver scooters, or on tour, so it is a good idea to drop us a line or call in advance rather than showing up.

What if I get a ticket?

You are responsible for all traffic violations.

At the moment of check out, you can sign to allow us to process your credit card in order to pay your ticket (this service costs €30, and it is charged only if you get a ticket), otherwise you will have to pay it yourself.

What is the minimum age for renting?

For the scooters, the minimum age is 20 years old.

For the motorcycles, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., as that depends on the power of the motorcycle.

What license do I need?

To rent a scooter up to 125 cc, you need a car license

To rent any scooter or motorcycle above 125 cc, you need a motorcycle license and your international driver's license.

What papers do I need to bring?

To rent a scooter up to 125 cc, you need to bring:

  • your driver's license
  • your credit card
  • your passport

To rent any scooter or motorcycle above 125 cc, you need to bring

  • your driver's license
  • your international driver's license
  • your credit card
  • your passport

Where are you located?

We have two distribution points, one in downtown Florence, and one in the middle of Chianti (in Radda in Chianti)

Please click on this link to be redirected to our locations tab and see where they are located.

Will you come pick me up...?

In case of an accident caused by another vehicle, we will come pick you up and the other vehicle will pay for the expenses.

In case you don't want to ride anymore (and you are far from our office) or in case of an accident caused by you, the cost is €50, plus €3/kilometer for every kilometer between the renting location and the place where the motor scooter is returned or abandoned, plus any additional recovery expenses TSR incurs.
